Fishing on the farm itself, a stocked pond at the bottom of the lower field, free for guests, with rods and a small bothy on the bank.
The pond is a half-acre, spring-fed, and has been stocked steadily for the better part of fifteen years. Carp, perch and the occasional tench. It sits at the bottom of the lower field, screened by the woodland edge, so even on a busy weekend at the Farmhouse you'll have it to yourself most mornings.
The main draw is the carp, common and mirror, healthy specimens up to about 18lb on a good day. Perch hold along the reedy north bank in summer. Tench show in the early mornings between May and September if you know where to look, and the cooked breakfast at the Farmhouse will wait for you when you come back in.
It's not a competition water and we don't pretend it is. It's a pond on a farm, well-kept, well-stocked, and quiet.
Three loaned rods kept in the Farmhouse boot room, float, feeder and a light carp setup. Hooks, floats, weights and a basic tackle box too.
A timber shelter on the south bank with two benches, a small stove, and somewhere to put your tea. Useful in October, essential in February.
Use it whenever you like during your stay, dawn or dusk, an afternoon or a whole day. Catch-and-return, barbless hooks. That's the whole rulebook.
Blithfield Reservoir is a ten-minute drive, one of the Midlands' best-regarded trout fisheries, with day and season tickets available at the lodge. The River Trent at Yoxall (twelve minutes) is good mixed coarse if you fancy a bit of flowing water. We can point you at both.
